Patent activity from the Czech Republic showed positive momentum in 2025. According to the latest figures from the European Patent Office (EPO), applicants from the Czech Republic filed 267 European patent applications, compared with 252 in 2024, an increase of 6%.
This growth comes against a backdrop of continued demand for European patent protection. In 2025, the EPO received a record 201,974 European patent applications, representing a 1.4% increase compared with the previous year.
What are Czech innovators patenting?
The fields in which patents are being granted and European patents validated in the Czech Republic also provide an interesting picture of the country's innovation landscape.
According to HARBER IP, AIPEX's associate member firm in the Czech Republic, leading fields currently include Transporting and Storing, Health and Amusement, Medical Preparations, Organic Chemistry, Measuring and Optics, and Material Processing.
