The 2026 SME Fund, an initiative established by the EUIPO, has been renewed to continue supporting SEs and SMEs in protecting and developing their intellectual property assets. This program is designed to help smaller companies strengthen their competitive position by making IP protection more accessible and affordable.
For the 2026 edition, the Fund offers several financial advantages that can significantly reduce the cost of securing trademarks, designs, and patents. Companies may benefit from subsidies of up to €700 per company for trademark and design filings, and up to €3,500 per company for patents—specifically €1,000 for national patent applications and €2,500 for European patent applications. These grants make it easier for SMEs to take a proactive approach to safeguarding their innovations.
In addition to these substantial subsidies, the program provides reimbursement of up to 75% of official filing fees. This high coverage rate enables smaller businesses to allocate resources more efficiently while ensuring their intangible assets are properly protected. Importantly, all SEs and SMEs established within the European Union are eligible to apply, broadening access to companies across all sectors.
To benefit from the SME Fund, companies must follow certain strategic requirements. The application for a grant voucher must be submitted and approved before any IP filing takes place, and the funding is distributed on a “first-come, first-served” basis due to budget limitations. Early planning and swift action are therefore essential to secure the available support.
AIPEX stands ready to assist companies throughout this process by offering expert guidance in assessing existing intellectual property and managing all necessary administrative steps. With their support, businesses can optimize their IP strategy and make the most of the financial opportunities offered by the 2026 SME Fund.
